Keepin' it real
Is it really so bothersome to a person when they are corrected by someone? Most of the time, the "corrector" may come off as snobby or pretentious, but one should really be aware of their intentions. I don't know about others, but when I correct someone, my intentions are good. I feel like it's necessary to correct them before they pass on the faulty information any further and in this way their potential humility is lessened. I mean, if you have the opportunity to increase someone's knowledge by even a tiny bit, why not? You shouldn't worry about being seen as condescending if that wasn't your purpose. If anything, they're rationalizing to make themselves feel better because they were wrong. Also, I'm talking about objective matters only, such as grammatical errors, erroneous information/myths/rumors conveyed as factual, etc.
